Privacy Policy

Plain English on what data VistaTrove collects, why, and the control you have over it.

Last updated: 29 June 2026

VistaTrove is an independent travel journal. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. We keep data collection to the minimum we actually need, and we never sell your personal information.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller for this website is the owner of VistaTrove. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, you can reach us by email at hello@vistatrove.com.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, this policy is provided in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation EU 2016/679, GDPR). For visitors in Spain, it also reflects the LSSI-CE (Ley 34/2002) and the LOPDGDD (Ley Orgánica 3/2018). Full legal-operator identity details (registered name and tax ID) are available on request to the email above and will be published here as the business is formally established.

What data we collect

We only collect data in a few clear situations:

  • Contact form. When you write to us, we collect the name, email address, subject and message you enter, so we can read your enquiry and reply.
  • Email. If you email us directly, we receive whatever you choose to include in that message.
  • Technical and usage data. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics tools may record limited technical information automatically: IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed and the time of your visit. This helps us keep the site secure and understand which guides are useful.

We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive personal data (for example health, religion or political views). Please do not include such information in messages to us.

Why we use it, and the legal basis

  • To answer your messages (legal basis: your consent, and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries).
  • To run and secure the site (legitimate interest in keeping VistaTrove working and protected from abuse).
  • To understand how guides are read via privacy-respecting analytics, where used (consent, where required for non-essential cookies).

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. VistaTrove uses them sparingly:

  • Essential cookies keep the site functioning. These do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies (if and when we enable a tool such as a privacy-focused analytics provider) help us count visits and see which guides are popular. These are only set with your consent where the law requires it.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies (see below) may be set by our partners when you click an outbound booking link.

You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work. For the full list and durations, see our Cookie Policy.

Analytics

Where we use analytics, the goal is simple: to learn which destinations and guides readers find useful, so we can write better ones. We look at aggregated patterns, not individual identities. We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles of you.

Affiliate links and third parties

VistaTrove is partly funded by affiliate links. When you click a link to a booking site, hotel, tour operator, insurer or other travel partner and then make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. To make that work, the partner (or a tracking network acting for them) may set a cookie that records the referral.

This means some of your data (for example that you arrived from VistaTrove, plus the technical details those partners collect themselves) is processed by third parties under their own privacy policies, not ours. We encourage you to read the privacy notice of any site you book through. You can learn more about how these links work on our affiliate disclosure page.

We also rely on standard service providers (such as our web host and email provider) to operate the site. They process data only on our instructions and under their own data-protection commitments.

How long we keep your data

Contact-form and email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up, then deleted or archived securely. Technical and analytics data is retained for limited periods in line with the tools we use. We do not keep personal data longer than necessary.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request erasure of your data (the "right to be forgotten").
  • Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
  • Request portability of data you have provided.

To exercise any of these, email hello@vistatrove.com and we will respond within the timeframe set by law. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. In Spain, that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including serving the site over HTTPS. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep the risk low.

Children

VistaTrove is intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site grows or the law changes. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
